The Light in Tomorrow

Poet, comedian and mental health peer support worker, Kylie Tansley’s life experiences are poetically conveyed in this quirky and punchy poetry collection. The Light in Tomorrow shines a powerful ray of hope, sometimes tinged with humour, on the subject of bipolar mood disorder. The poems illuminate the healing power of the natural world, of love and faith in our fellow humans.
This is a book to enjoy, to learn from and to give to anyone who has found themselves or their loved ones in a dark place. Kylie Tansley’s message is clear there is always light in tomorrow. Using highly charged language and apt analogies Kylie takes her readers inside the mind and spirit of an incredible woman, advocate and optimist. The message, of taking one step at a time and building on sparks of love and light until a warm glow emerges, is heartening and inspiring. The genre of poetry is perfect for Kylie to express herself and reveal her lived experiences as a life-long learner, educator and survivor. The light of love shines through these pages.

Like a robot

When you’re feeling down
how hard is it to get motivated?
You’re like a robot without a chip
waiting daily to be activated.
When you are feeling anxious
your head’s not in that space.
It’s hard to do the smallest thing
for your mind’s all over the place.
When you are feeling better
when you’re more switched on and bright,
your perception of the world changes
as you walk from darkness into light.

Helping helps

You may feel like everything is a trap
when your perception has distortion.
How do you know what is right,
when everything is out of proportion?
When you feel like you can’t do anything right,
remember there’s something only you can do.
It may be a talent you don’t know about yet,
perhaps it’s helping someone else get through.

Have you ever noticed?

Have you ever noticed how a hug
can never be too long?
It’s like love between friends,
or our hope for what’s ahead.
Have you ever realised
how much we should forgive?
A single wrong between friends
is no reason love should end.
Have you ever wondered
how much we’re meant to love?
To have compassion for another,
to think of someone else?
